You've asked two different questions. If you were married to the guy, what happens to your possessions upon divorce will be spelled out in the divorce documents.
If you were just cohabiting, it seems to me that if you give him reasonable notice, there probably isn't a fixed time. So send him a letter saying that you're giving him, say, a month to get his stuff out, and then preserve some evidence that the letter has indeed been sent.

You have to go to the local magistrate and file against him....Almost like eviction, unless violence is involved. If there is a PFA in place you can dispose of this garbage immediately. Is his name on your lease? That makes a diffeence too. If everything is in YOUR name, legally he has to sue you to retrieve his stuff.....Call your local magistrate office Monday morning, they can tell you exactly what the time frame is and how to go about removing his articles legally, w/ no hassles.
