How can you get a divorce if you cant find your spouse after a year of separation?

Not sure if its the same in all states but the lawyer will post it in the paper that the divorce is being filed. After a certain amount of time has passed the divorce will go on even if that person does not respond. How can you get a divorce if you cant find your spouse after a year of separation?
I have to agree with some of your other answers. A big part of this depends on the laws of the state that you reside right now. Your first step should be contacting the domestic relations section of your local courthouse and finding out what laws exist in you state in reference to abandonment. Depending on what you find out from there, you may not even need an lawyer. Some stores here in Ohio sell a ';do it yourself'; divorce kit that is recognized by the courts. You file for a summary dissolution. See an attorney. It's not a hard process.
you just file for it. They will get the papers somehow saying they are divorced! just make sure its after a year... you can actually file for divorce about 8 months after the seperation and it becomes legal at one year
